“Law in the Digital Age: Technology’s Impact on Attorneys and Law Offices” A one hour survey of how technology has impacted the practice of law, including a review of Cloud Computing, Virtual Law Offices, Attorneys’ General Duty of Technology Competence, Social Media, and Marketing.  How these areas intertwine with legal ethics is explored with a discussion through a handful of hypotheticals at the end of the presentation.

The three takeaways will be:

1. Technological innovation in the legal field is inevitable and should be embraced, not feared. 

2. Legal ethical duties are medium neutral and law offices must think before they act when it comes to use of technology. 

3. Utilizing Social Media and other forms of modern information technology will increase client interaction and business.

Kellam T. Parks is a managing member of Parks Zeigler, PLLC in Virginia Beach, which is a paperless, technologically-driven law practice. He obtained his B.A. in Philosophy with Honors, Summa Cum Laude from St. Andrews University in North Carolina in and earned his J.D. from the Marshall-Wythe College of Law at William and Mary.  Kellam is a Tidewater native and has been practicing there for 16 years. 

Kellam is co-chair of the Technology and the Practice of Law Special Committee of the Virginia State Bar and frequently writes and speaks on the topic of the use of technology in the practice of law.
